The world is increasingly influenced by Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI offers a wealth of opportunities that will affect virtually every industry; however, with these opportunities come challenges and ethical considerations that must be navigated. This guide has been developed to explore the benefits and challenges of AI in order to increase and better understand AI literacy.
Currently, most AI is not regulated. UNESCO's Global AI Ethics and Governance Observatory has been created to provide a global resource for policymakers, regulators, academics, the private sector and civil society to find solutions to the most pressing challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence.
Highlights from a recent UNESCO report state:
"In no other field is the ethical compass more relevant than in artificial intelligence. These general-purpose technologies are re-shaping the way we work, interact, and live... AI technology brings major benefits in many areas, but without the ethical guardrails, it risks reproducing real world biases and discrimination, fueling divisions and threatening fundamental human rights and freedoms."
