Use your textbook and search for books and articles using the resources suggested in this guide to research just your topic, without your company yet. Once you feel that you sufficiently understand how your topic relates to all companies and can write about it, start to look for specific articles on your company.
Finding information on your selected company.
Start by searching the latest annual report or 10-K of your company. The Annual Reports are very lengthy. Use the Ctr F key to search by keyword. (See additional information on using Annual Reports below)
Once you've reviewed the Annual Report, search in library databases for your topic combined with the name of the company. I suggest that you keep a list of keywords to use in your searches.
Identify keywords that relate to your topic to assist you when you are searching for resources. Often different words can describe the same concepts and as a researcher, you can never be sure which keywords will bring back the information you are looking for. Keep a log of keywords to use in your search. I suggest mapping out different ways to say the same thing as in the chart below:
