New Jersey's Health Insurance Marketplace

Under NJ's new health exchange called Get Covered New Jersey, individuals eligible for subsidy assistance and premium tax credits will find the lowest net premiums since the passage of the Affordable Care Act more than a decade ago. Starting in November 2020, GetCoveredNJ is the only place where you can apply for financial help to lower the cost of your monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs for health insurance.

Visit GetCoveredNJ to learn more, shop and compare costs, and apply for health insurance. Open Enrollment is from November 1st through January 31st each year, but you can enroll any time if you have a major life change, like having a baby, moving or losing job-based insurance.

New Jersey and the federal government are also providing new and expanded financial help to reduce insurance premiums for more consumers who purchase plans through Get Covered New Jersey.

NJ's New Health Insurance Laws - https://nj.gov/treasury/njhealthinsurancemandate/

  • Beginning January 1, 2019, New Jersey will require its residents to maintain health insurance.
  • The law requires you and your family to have minimum essential health coverage throughout 2019 and beyond, unless you qualify for an exemption.
  • Failure to have health coverage or qualify for an exemption will result in a Shared Responsibility Payment when you file your 2019 New Jersey Income Tax return.
  • If you are not required to file a 2019 New Jersey Income Tax return – you are exempt from this mandate.
