FlipgridFlipgrid icon is now FlipFlip icon! Flip is an excellent tool to use to help develop a connection with your students. While it is a tool you would use asynchronously, the video and audio can help discussions feel like they are taking place synchronously.

You can create topics for your students to discuss and they record short videos to contribute to the conversation around the topic. They can reply to each other, as well.

It is important for the instructor to contribute to the conversations here and in other parts of the course because it will demonstrate the importance of the conversations taking place.

How can I connect Flip to Canvas? 🤓

You will add Flip as an LTI (LTI = Learning Tools Interoperability) to Canvas first. By connecting Flip to Canvas, you can create assignments using Flip seamlessly.

I need ideas to spark my creativity!

Below are some ways you could use Flip with your learners. How might you adapt them to meet your students' needs?

  • Asynchronous debates and discussions
  • Book or article reviews (i.e., Book talks)
  • Course check-ins with the instructor
  • Current events
  • Exit ticket
  • Goal setting
  • Group project asynchronous discussions
  • Practice interviews
  • Ice breaker discussion (i.e., Would you rather? Two truths and a lie...)
  • Read and respond to course materials
  • Reflection on a project or process
  • Virtual vocabulary (Have students make a virtual glossary of terms from the course that are important to know for reference - limit videos to 30 seconds)
  • What do you know? (Talk about what they know about a topic)
